Setting Up the Valotalive Web Player
Open pwa.valota.live in a browser on your device — a pairing code will appear on screen
Go to Claim a Display (https://dashboard.valota.live/#my_displays/show/new_display) in your Valotalive Dashboard
Enter the pairing code — your display is now registered and ready.
What is the Web Player? The Valotalive Web Player is a browser-based player that runs on any modern web browser. It is the quickest way to get a display up and running — no app installation required. Use it for testing your Valotalive setup or for production on devices not on the officially supported hardware list. |
When to use the Web Player
Use case | Who it's for | Notes |
Free trial testing | New customers evaluating Valotalive | Open pwa.valota.live in any browser. No hardware needed — test on any laptop or computer. |
SOC display (not on supported list) | Customers with smart screens that can run a URL player | If the SOC display has a browser or URL player app, navigate to pwa.valota.live to run Valotalive on it. |
Non-standard media player | Customers with media players running an OS other than Windows or ChromeOS | Any media player that can run a modern browser can use the Web Player. |
Temporary or backup display | Any customer needing a quick replacement | Use the Web Player to bring a display online immediately while waiting for dedicated hardware. |
All features supported: The Web Player supports all Valotalive features — Flows, Apps, the Digital Tier Board, and all content sources. There is no feature difference compared to the Windows or ChromeOS players. |
How to set up the Web Player
1. Open the Web Player on your device
On the device you want to use as a display, open a web browser and go to:
The Valotalive logo appears on screen alongside a pairing code — a short string of letters and numbers (for example: ifqg2dts).
Tip: Use the QR code to quickly open the claim URL on your phone without typing it. |
2. Claim the display in the Valotalive Dashboard
On a separate device (your computer or phone), go to:
Log in to your Valotalive account if prompted. Enter the pairing code shown on the display screen and confirm. The display is now registered in your Valotalive Dashboard and ready to be assigned a Flow or content.
After claiming: The Web Player checks for its paired status every two minutes. After you claim the display in the dashboard, the pairing screen will update automatically within two minutes. You can also reload the browser on the display device to see the paired status immediately. |
Already have a PIN? If you have previously registered this device and have a PIN, hover over the Web Player screen with your mouse to reveal the PIN entry field instead of using the claim flow. |
3. Assign content
Once claimed, the display appears in your Valotalive Dashboard. Assign a Flow or add apps directly to it as you would with any other display. Content will appear on the Web Player immediately after publishing.
Using the Web Player in production
For production use — where the Web Player runs continuously as a display — follow these recommendations to ensure a reliable experience.
Install it as a PWA
The Valotalive Web Player is a Progressive Web App (PWA). Installing it as an app on the device gives a cleaner, more reliable experience than running it in a browser tab:
On Chrome or Edge: Click the install icon in the browser address bar (a small screen or download icon) and select Install. The Web Player opens as a standalone app without browser UI.
On Android: Chrome will prompt you to Add to home screen. Tap it to install.
On other browsers: Look for an Install app or Add to home screen option in the browser menu.
Use kiosk mode
For production displays, run the Web Player in kiosk mode to prevent users from accidentally navigating away from the content. The method depends on your device:
Windows: Use Windows Assigned Access (kiosk mode) to lock the device to a single browser or PWA. See the Valotalive article on setting up a Windows kiosk for guidance.
Android: Use your device management system or Android's built-in screen pinning to lock the display to the Web Player app.
SOC displays and custom media players: Enable kiosk or URL player mode in the device settings and point it to https://pwa.valota.live. Refer to your device manufacturer's documentation for kiosk configuration.
Keep the browser updated
The Web Player runs in the browser, so the performance and compatibility of the display depends on how current the browser is. Use a modern, actively updated browser for best results. Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Chromium) are recommended.
Offline playback: If the network connection drops, the Web Player continues playing any content that has been cached — displays keep running without interruption. New content updates and changes made in the dashboard will not appear until the connection is restored and the player syncs. |
