How to filter SharePoint News in the Valotalive SharePoint App

Use SharePoint filters in the Valotalive SharePoint app to display targeted intranet news on your digital signage displays.

Written by Katariina

How Filtering Works

The Valotalive SharePoint app follows your existing SharePoint filtering rules. Filters control which news posts appear on your displays based on how posts are tagged in SharePoint.

Common filter types:

  • News Type

  • Audience

  • Translation Language

⚠️ Filter values are case sensitive and must match exactly as they appear in SharePoint.

How Filters Are Defined

Valotalive SharePoint filters are based on SharePoint column headers and their values. When setting up a filter, you must know the exact format of the values — including capitalization, spaces, and any special characters.

Tagging SharePoint News Posts for Display

To display a SharePoint news post on your Valotalive screens, you need to add the correct tag to the post before publishing it.

⚠️ The tag must be added while composing the post - before you publish it. Tags added after publishing will not be picked up by Valotalive.

Valotalive automatically selects posts with the correct tag and ignores any posts without one.

What You Need

Before setting up filters, make sure you have:

  • Filter views configured in SharePoint Pages

  • Valotalive SharePoint app activated and authenticated - see MS SharePoint App – Activate and Use

  • SharePoint news pages (posts) tagged with the filter values you want to use

How to Set Up Filters

  1. Go to Apps and open your SharePoint News app

  2. Go to the Configuration tab and confirm the correct SharePoint site is selected

Having trouble setting up Filters?

If filters are not working as expected, send a screenshot of your SharePoint column view (like the example below) to support@valota.live. This helps the Valotalive team identify the correct column fields and values from the SharePoint API connection.
