Why is My Power BI Report not showing on the displays?

If your Power BI report has stopped updating or is not showing on your displays, follow these steps to identify and resolve the issue.

Written by Katariina

Before You Start

Ask yourself:

  • Has this report ever worked on screen?

  • Is the screen showing nothing, or is the content just not updating?

Your answer determines where to start — use the steps below for reports that have previously worked, or jump to the Never Worked section at the bottom.

Step 1 – Check for Source Errors

  1. Open the Power BI app and go to the Information tab

  2. Look at these two fields for error messages:

    • Outstanding source reports

    • Latest notification from the source

Example of "Outstanding Reports from players" and "Outstanding Source Reports" from Power BI app Information tab

These notifications come directly from the Microsoft Power BI API and help identify the root cause.

Query error

Check that the configured fields in Valotalive match your Power BI report settings

File not found

Confirm the Power BI file is in the same cloud location with the same name — if moved or renamed, re-select the file in the app's Configuration tab

Missing pages

Confirm all report pages selected in Valotalive still exist in the Power BI report

Step 2 – Check the Source Status

  1. Go to the app's Source tab

  2. Check the Source is pushing data field:

  3. Also verify:

    • Latest content timestamp — does it match the actual time your data was last updated? Note that there may be a slight sync delay between Valotalive and Power BI

    • Current data — this field is always empty for Power BI for security reasons

Example of Power BI App's Source tab

Step 3 – Check Filters in Configuration

  1. Go to the app's Configuration tab and click Show Advanced

    Show Advanced button

  2. Review all active filters and confirm they match the current report data and pages

  3. If pages or fields referenced in the filters no longer exist in Power BI, update or remove them

Step 4 – Verify the Correct Power BI File Is Selected

  1. Open the app and go to the Configuration tab

  2. Use the Microsoft File Picker to re-select the correct report

You can only do this for apps you own. Check the app owner under the Information tab.

Report Has Never Worked on Screen

If the report has never displayed correctly, check the following:

  • Were there any errors during the Power BI app authorization? If yes, note the exact error message

  • Check that your user account has the required permissions in Entra ID (Azure AD)

Entra ID Permissions

  • Ask your Entra ID Global Administrator to verify that both your user account and the Valotalive Power BI app have the necessary permissions in your organization

  • Check the Enterprise Application status in Entra ID
